Instructor, Design Studies
Faculty of Fine Arts and Communications
The Design Studies program at MacEwan University invites applications for a one-year, full-time instructor position commencing January 6, 2014. Candidates should possess the ability to teach at multiple levels in the curriculum, from foundations studies to senior studios and seminars, and are expected to make a significant contribution in developing curriculum that strikes a balance between theory and practice.
Located in Edmonton, Alberta, MacEwan University is a comprehensive undergraduate university offering more than 75 different credentials to over 15,000 full time students spread over four campuses. The MacEwan Design Studies program has been educating well-respected designers for more than thirty years. A new three-year Design Studies diploma was launched in Fall 2013 and plans are underway for the development of a four-year baccalaureate degree. The program has six continuing faculty positions, three instructional assistants and approximately 200 students.
The Design Studies program at MacEwan University equips students to become the creative communications leaders of tomorrow. Through theoretical grounding, practical craft knowledge, and application of tools and technology, students gain solid skills enabling them to enter a wide variety of professional visual communication design disciplines. MacEwan’s Design culture is learner-centered, and grounded in process and in studio practice. Faculty members are design practitioners as well as professional teachers. They remain current in their discipline and are committed to continuous improvement as teachers. MacEwan’s Design program instructors promote inquiry and challenge students to become effective communicators.
Applicants should possess an MDes or MFA in Visual Communication Design and demonstrate excellence or clear promise of excellence in teaching. A combination of professional, educational and instructional equivalencies will be considered. Candidates for this position must have demonstrated professional expertise in the area of interactive/web design.
Candidates should submit a covering letter, curriculum vitae, recent teaching evaluations, a statement of teaching interests and experience, names and contact information for three references, and a portfolio of student and personal work.
This position is included under Faculty Association Collective Agreement.
