Red Deer College (RDC) is seeking a Consultant with broad expertise in the arts to coordinate, guide and facilitate a program development
project involving the visual and performing arts and related artsdisciplines. This project could be structured within an employed
position, or alternatively as a fee-for-service contract in the case of a limited company. The hours of work for this project will provide the
incumbent with some flexibility, however it is expected that the Consultant will need to spend a considerable amount of their time on
site at RDC. The project will commence as soon as possible, and will end by June 30, 2014.
RDC has a strong track record for its programs in visual and performing arts. RDC is committed to the renewal and growth of its arts
programming, and is creating a plan to develop new programs and to redevelop existing programs as necessary to create a viable,
sustainable, and high profile school. Current programming primarily consists of two-year diploma programs, many with university
transferability:
Music
Visual art (with studios in ceramics, drawing, painting, printmaking, and sculpture)
Theatre performance and creation
Theatre and entertainment production
Motion picture arts (post-diploma, applied degree focussing on dramatic narrative film
The Consultant will work closely with the Dean, as well as faculty and staff, to narrow down ideas for programming and delivery based on:
Potential student demand and relevance for careers in the arts or related sectors
High level estimates of feasibility (faculty, staff, technology, facilities, partnerships and any other resource requirements)
Fit with RDC strategic assets and directions
The Consultant will conclude his/her work with the submission of a plan that outlines an overall vision for the future of the arts at RDC. The
plan, developed in conjunction with the Dean, will identify specific areas targeted for program development and program redevelopment,
identify strategies for the next phase, and provide a rationale for thevision. The plan requires approval by RDC senior administration by
June 30, 2014.
The ideal candidate will have:
A graduate degree and several years of experience in project management related to the development, implementation and
delivery of arts related programs.
Demonstrated strong analytical, interpersonal, diplomacy and communication skills, both verbal and written.
Ability to interact effectively and sensitively with a variety of people with diverse professional and technical backgrounds.
Expertise in the application of digital media is essential.
Preferred Qualifications:
Preference will be given to applicants with experience in
instruction, curriculum design and/or program development at a
college or university level.
Hours of Work: Flexible hours up to full time

Position End Date: June 30, 2014
Wages: Commensurate with education and experience
