Emily Carr University of Art + Design, a world-renowned learning community dedicated to research and the education of artists and designers, invites applications for a full-time tenure track position of Assistant Professor in History and Theory of Design in Critical + Cultural Studies.
This position is situated within the Faculty of Culture + Community, which is dedicated to excellence in teaching and to the critical interplay between theory and practice within a studio environment. The successful applicant will be required to teach Design History and Methodologies from an introductory to graduate level, and be an active participant in the university community. A commitment to Foundation teaching and general visual culture curriculum, with the ability to lead large lecture classes, is also required.
The successful candidate will have a Ph.D., or equivalent, in one of the following disciplines: design history, critical and cultural studies in design, communication studies, or related studies in design research. Candidates must have a demonstrated commitment to teaching excellence, with a minimum of two years post-secondary teaching experience and an exemplary academic practice as demonstrated through a strong publication record.
In addition to teaching, faculty are expected to contribute to curriculum development and planning, participate in portfolio reviews and upper-level design critiques, provide undergraduate and graduate student supervision, maintain an active research/professional practice profile, serve on administrative committees and be an active and engaged member of the Emily Carr community.
