Vice President, Academic & Provost
Capilano University
Vancouver, BC

Capilano University invites applications and nominations for the position of Vice President, Academic & Provost. This is a unique academic leadership opportunity for an academic innovator and leader who views programming in a distinctive student centered manner.

In 2008, the Province of British Columbia transitioned Capilano College to a teaching focused university. As Capilano University continues to build its university level programming, it is seeking a candidate who is a visionary, lateral thinker with a record of creating innovative undergraduate programming and working with an academic philosophy based on experiential learning, community engaged education and employment competencies across all disciplines. The incumbent will bring strength of character and a proven collaborative style to the University. The incumbent is one who is creative, embraces change and innovation with a focus on student outcomes, and who brings experience in professional development around scholarly teaching.

Capilano’s candidacy for accreditation with the NWCCU has encouraged a culture of assessment and program learning outcomes. The new Vice President, Academic & Provost encourages this continuous quality improvement approach to provide an outstanding student experience while ensuring an esprit de corps amongst faculty, staff and administration. This is a challenging and interesting role that requires a leader who brings energy and inspiration to their team.

Reporting to the President, the successful candidate will provide true academic leadership with a wide range of responsibilities. This includes a broad range of accountabilities related to the overall administration, strategic planning, academic and managerial operations related to the Academic Plan. The ideal candidate will be recognized for the personal attributes noted above along with impeccable and appropriate academic credentials and administrative depth allowing the Vice President to advance the goals of the University.

The Vice President, Academic & Provost appointment will ideally take place as early as the spring of 2013 but may commence later following discussions with the preferred candidate.

Consideration of candidates begins immediately. The University encourages applications from all qualified individuals. For further information about Capilano University visit www.capilanou.ca. Please respond to or nominate candidates in confidence to George Madden or Esther McGregor at:
