The Institute of Communication, Culture and Information Technology (ICCIT) at the University of Toronto Mississauga invites applications for a tenure-stream appointment at the rank of Associate Professor. The start date of the position is July 1, 2014. Salary will be competitive and commensurate with qualifications and experience.

We seek candidates with demonstrated research and teaching abilities in one or more areas of contemporary communication studies. Possible areas of focus include: (1) communication and cultural studies; (2) political economy of information/communication; (3) information/communication policy; (4) intercultural communications. The candidate will join a group of scholars shaping the future of the Institute in the field of digital and new media and provide leadership in helping develop the Institute as a centre of research and teaching excellence. We seek an outstanding scholar with an established publication record, experience with multidisciplinary research, and evidence of excellence in teaching. Completion of a PhD is required. The successful candidate will teach undergraduate and graduate courses in her/his area of specialization and must be experienced in educating and mentoring graduate students, junior researchers and/or professionals. The successful candidate’s graduate appointment will be in one of the University’s tri-campus graduate departments. Previous administrative experience, and experience in developing new curricula at both the graduate and undergraduate levels, would be assets.

ICCIT is a newly established institute at the University of Toronto Mississauga that focuses on teaching and research excellence in its four undergraduate programs: Communication, Culture, Information and Technology (CCIT), Interactive Digital Media (IDM), Digital Enterprise Management (DEM), and Professional Writing and Communication (PWC). Currently, the ICCIT is building a research complement in social networking and communication, interactive and immersive digital media and culture, and the theory and practice of design, with an emphasis on all aspects of digital media. The Institute is closely associated with the Faculty of Information, with whom it jointly offers the IDM program. Additional collaborative programs with this renowned iSchool are under development. The ICCIT actively engages with other University of Toronto graduate units, including the Knowledge Media Design Institute (KMDI), Biomedical Communications, and the Institute of Medical Sciences (IMS). Through its internship program and research projects, the Institute is also involved with community, profit- and non-profit organizations.
