The Faculty of Music at Wilfrid Laurier University invites applications for an appointment in Music Therapy. This is an open rank search. The position commences July 1, 2022 with salary and rank commensurate with experience.

The Faculty of Music, housed on the Waterloo Campus of Wilfrid Laurier University (Laurier), seeks an accomplished and/or promising scholar and teacher of Music Therapy who is looking to engage and mentor undergraduate, Masterís, and PhD students through their programs of study, and to be an active contributor to the Manfred and Penny Conrad Institute for Music Therapy Research (CIMTR). The successful applicant will become part of a long and distinguished history of music therapy education and training in Canada. Laurier offers the only Bachelor of Music Therapy degree in Ontario and is the only university in Canada to offer both the BMT and MMT degrees. The CIMTR, housed at Laurier, is one of the few institution-based research institutes for music therapy in the world, as well as having Canadaís only Clinical Improvisation Lab.



Qualifications

You are an active researcher in Music Therapy who holds a completed PhD at the time of application, with at least 5 years experience as a practicing Music Psychotherapist, 3 years of clinical supervisory experience, and post-secondary teaching experience or significant teaching of Music Therapy in nonacademic settings. You either hold, or are eligible to hold, the status of Registered Psychotherapist with Independent Practice in the province of Ontario [www.crpo.ca] and have extensive experience related to improvisation, having either taught clinical improvisation at the post-secondary level or having a clinical practice where improvisation plays a central role. You have a proven record of independent scholarship and publication, with evidence that scholarly research is current and ongoing.


The ideal candidate will have significant post-secondary teaching experience, having taught and developed a broad range of courses at the undergraduate level, and possibly at the graduate level as well. The ideal candidate will have experience engaging with equity-deserving groups (e.g. racialized communities, persons with disabilities) and demonstrated commitment to the promotion of equity, diversity, and inclusion within clinical practice, research, and teaching. Experience supervising graduate level research is a significant asset but is not required. A demonstrated versatility and technique as a musician and clinical musician, and experience or capacity to teach improvisation, songwriting, and/or medical music therapy are assets, as are strong organizational and administrative skills.
