Teaching Intensive Stream, Lecturer: Experimental Animation Program

Ontario College of Art and Design University (OCAD U) acknowledges the ancestral and traditional territories of the Mississaugas of the Credit First Nation, the Haudenosaunee, the Anishinaabe and the Huron-Wendat, who are the original owners and custodians of the land on which we gather and create.

OCAD University, Canada’s university of the imagination, provides a vibrant and stimulating environment for its faculty and students. Committed to excellence and contemporary approaches to education, OCAD U offers seventeen undergraduate programs, seven graduate programs, and a variety of continuing education courses in art, media and design. OCAD U is currently seeking outstanding, creative practitioners and gifted, collaborative teachers to augment its professoriate in this opportunity. It is an exciting time to join the OCAD U community as the University continues to fulfil and expand upon its commitment to decolonization, diversity, and equity.

The Faculty of Art invites applications for a full-time Teaching Intensive Stream position within the newly developed Experimental Animation Program at the rank of Lecturer. This highly innovative undergraduate Program in animation offers a BFA degree. In tandem with the upcoming launch of our new Experimental Animation program, this individual will support alternative and non-conventional animation practice, using a variety of analog and/or digital approaches and technologies in experimental or hybrid ways: 2D, stop-motion, 3D, as well as expanded practices such as installation, interactive and VR/AR. The individual will have the ability to teach both foundational and advanced animation courses, bringing technically innovative approaches along with a strong conceptual direction to their practice. A strong understanding of critical issues within contemporary animation practice is required, including the ability to lead seminar discussions on issues of representation and character design as it pertains to race, gender, and cultural stereotyping in animation. Through a significant record of professional practice and dissemination, we anticipate this hire will contribute to curricular and program advances for the upcoming Experimental Animation program but also potentially contribute to the Integrated Media Program and Cross-disciplinary practices as well. The Faculty of Art is committed to the decolonization of art practices and art institutions in order to champion diversity, equity and inclusion and requires all applicants to demonstrate the same level of commitment relevant to the lived experience of intersectional racialized and/or Indigenous epistemologies.

This appointment is expected to commence on August 1, 2022 and is subject to budgetary approval.
